Warning signs: a protocol for your own betting

Betting has become a problem when it decides things it should not: your budget, your sleep, your honesty with family. Answer each line truthfully. If two or more come back yes, pause betting and tell someone you trust.

• You bet money set aside for rent, fees, EMIs or household costs.
• You raise stakes to win back what you lost the same day.
• Deposits now come from loans, credit cards or things you have sold.
• You hide deposits, betting apps or losses from people close to you.
• You feel restless or angry when you cannot bet, or bet to escape stress.
• You keep playing after a cricket match ends by jumping to crash games or live tables.

Crash games and live tables settle a round in seconds, so a loss can be repeated many times in an hour. That speed is the reason we treat them as the highest-risk part of any lobby.

Money and time limits you can set without the operator

You do not need an operator's tools to set a limit; your bank and phone can enforce one. Fix a monthly sum whose loss would change nothing in your life, and count it as gone once deposited.

1. Use a separate UPI-linked account or wallet for betting and move only that month's amount into it.
2. Lower the daily UPI transfer limit in your banking app, where your bank allows it.
3. Never deposit from a credit card, an overdraft or borrowed money.
4. Before each session, set an alarm on your phone; when it goes off, log out.
5. Keep a note of each deposit and each withdrawal; only the difference tells the truth.

A simple example: with a ₹2,000 monthly limit, a ₹300 deposit is 15% of the month. Seven deposits that size and the month is over, whatever the screen promised.

4rabet's own tools: breaks yes, spending cap no

Under 4rabet's Responsible Gaming Policy a player can take a break of 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month or 3 months, or exclude themselves for a minimum of 1 year with no early way back. Where the account lacks a button for this, the policy points players to [email protected].

When we opened the account menu during our check, it held four tabs (Profile, Payments History, Bets History, Support) and nothing for limits or breaks. The rules mention no deposit limits. On our protocol that is a fail: a player cannot cap spending inside the account, so the bank-side limits above matter more.

The policy bars anyone under 18 and links to Gamblers Anonymous, but it lists no Indian helpline. If you ask for self-exclusion by e-mail, keep the reply as proof and remove any saved login from your phone.

Self-exclusion beyond one site

Blocking one operator rarely works on its own, because offshore sites open new mirror addresses and new brands appear in ads every week. A wider block covers the device and the money route.

• Use your phone's built-in parental or screen-time controls to block betting sites and app installs; let a family member hold the PIN.
• Ask your bank whether it can block payments to gambling merchants on your account.
• Exit any Telegram or WhatsApp group posting betting IDs, tips or payout screenshots.
• Unsubscribe from operator e-mails and SMS, and block the senders.

None of this replaces support from a person. It removes the easy route back during the first weeks, which are usually the hardest.

If money was taken by a fake betting site, a so-called agent or a fake customer-care number, ring 1930 the same day or lodge it on cybercrime.gov.in. Quick reporting gives the bank a better chance to hold the transfer.

Family members can call Tele-MANAS too. Talking about debts early is easier than after the next loan.

4rabet’s licence line points offshore, to Curaçao, with no number printed, so its own policy is the only rulebook for its safety tools, and the deposit cap has to come from you.
